Retreat Centres

If you are looking for space to reflect or to meet with others, then why not try a retreat centre? They provide an excellent venue for a conference, away day, meeting or seminar. Alternatively, if you are simply in need of a day or a few days just to get away from it all, then come and feel the tension evaporate in the calmness of the centres.

We are fortunate to have two retreats in our region; Shepherds Dene and Minsteracres.

Shepherds Dene serves the dioceses of Durham and Newcastle as diocesan retreat house. The house is an Edwardian country house, built in the Arts and Crafts style, and set in 26 acres of grounds. The estate was given to the Church of England in 1945 to be used as a retreat house and is within easy of reach of Newcastle, Durham and Carlisle.  It is a spiritual place for peace and quiet and sometimes for fun and celebration as well. It provides a space to think, a chance to grow and to walk more closely with God. We welcome guests of all denominations and faiths - and those without a faith.

Minsteracres Retreat Centre is a Christian place of prayer with a resident community rooted in the Passionist tradition. We welcome people who share our values and we invite you to enjoy our hospitality, food and accomodation. Minsteracres is set in a beautiful 110 acre estate in Durham. Within our historic buildings and estate we have spaces for prayer and rooms to hire for retreats and events.
