The Parish of Ponteland

Ponteland Penguins

Penguins was our children's group which met every Sunday from September 2010 until January 2013. We had a short service in St Mary's - with a song or two and a penguin joke - and then crafts, games and plenty of different activities. We had a good group of young people and parents stayed and got involved - we had a lot of fun.

However, by the start of 2013 our numbers were declining, older children were moving on, and Penguins needs a re-think. We ended with our Christingle on 13 January, and are now wondering where we go from here. If meeting every week is too much, do we have occasional sessions in the holidays? Why Penguins? When we were trying to choose a name, some of the group wanted a name linked with animals - "Ponteland Panthers" or something similar. Another group were in favour of a chocolate name. So "Penguins" kept everyone happy - and Penguin biscuits are always served.
